Twenty for Prayer -- April and May 2008

Again, only for those who are interested in joining in on the praying. ;-)

A friend suggested that we address in prayer the topic of:  Financial Security
There is a great deal of fear and unease at the moment over the housing situation – people who cannot afford to keep their houses – gas prices, food prices, and a number of other issues, all leading to an atmosphere of fear and predictions of wide-spread recession.
When praying about this topic, it is important to address the idea of “prediction.” The Bible warns us against false prophets, against predictions that do not come from God. Well, what is the idea that “if you violate the law of supply and demand, you will suffer a recession” but a prediction? “Gas prices are going to get higher.” “More people are going to default on their loans.” These are predictions, predicting doom and gloom.
It is not the Law of Supply and Demand, or even the Law of Cause and Effect, to which we must give our allegiance, but to the Law of God. God’s Law is not limited by supply and demand! Think of Elisha and the oil, or Jesus and the loaves and the fishes! God’s Law looks out for each and every one of His children – so long as we turn to Him and ask Him to carry our burdens for us.
So, for April and May, I thought we could pray to know that mankind is ruled by God’s Laws rather than by the rules of economics. We can also pray for those who are currently suffering. God loves His children, rich and poor.
Some relevant Bible quotes:
"Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart."  ( Jeremiah 14:14)

"But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace." (Psalm 37:11)

“In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”  (John 14:2)
"But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:" (2 Corinthians 8:14)

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."  (Matthew 11:28-30)
