Overheard at the Wright Household

I arrived at the door of Juss’s friend’s house. His friend, who is a couple of years older than him, met me at the door with the words:

“Juss told me about your ghost problem. I’ve started a Ghost Hunting business. I’d like to come over and check it out.”

Being a good roleplayer, I just nodded in agreement. (I knew my son knew it was a game…did this boy? God only knows.)

So, the friend arrived, and the two boys ran off to look for ghosts, inside and out. I was impressed at their diligence. It was COLD out there. I heard a few tidbits of conversation. Stuff like:

“It’s definitely not a vampire or a werewolf.”

and (with distain)

Juss: “There are no vampires in Virginia!” [which really made me want to write a short story that could include the line, "The red-cravatted vampire is spotted only south of Florida. While, the blue-spatted vampire is seen only along the Mississippi River."]

They asked if they could go in to the locked store rooms. I said okay, so long as they didn’t touch anything. They came running back to tell me that the laundry room, which is normally locked, was unlocked. They asked, had I left it unlocked.

I could not remember, but I said, “I don’t think so.”

They looked at each other and nodded simutaneoulsy. “Poltergeist!”

As they ran off to investigate, I heard Juss say, “It was definitely a poltergeist, or maybe a ninja!”
