12:28 pm: Good things...When it Rains, It Pours.
Last week, I got to see my book for the very first time. On the same day, we picked our daughter. We have deecided to adopt the almost 14 year-old Chinese girl who is in need of a family.

At first it was a shock to go from expecting a little girl to a teenager, but the more time goes by, the more reasons why this is a great thing for our family surface.  Even the boys, who were a bit take aback to find that they would not be getting a younger sister, are on board.

We have begun the paperwork. God willing, she will be ours within the next two to four months.

Excellent news!

It's harder for older children to find loving homes, but in many ways, they need it more. I hope everything goes smoothly...

I'm so glad that the adoption is working out -- for her and for you all. When I heard about how her time was running out and if she didn't get adopted soon she'd probably face a life of grinding poverty, I had a simultaneous feeling of "oh please, let something work out for her" and that ears-back, claws-out hissing fury at the unfairness of her being condemned to a dead-end future just because she missed an arbitrary deadline. And now -- it's just so cool to know that not only will she be adopted and have a happy home and have a real future full of open doors, but that she'll be with someone I know and I'll get to hear the rest of the story.

We are so happy about this! It just seems as if it will be a perfect fit (everything except having to move the office downstairs, but even that has some good points.)

We'll definitely let you know more as it goes on!

One of the nicest things was the realization that I would now have a girl of age to interact with Autumn and with my nieces. It seems like such a lovely gift!

Congrats!!

There are two lovely young women in my church, who were adopted from Ethiopia. Everyone was surprised that their adoptive mother would adopt older children (9 and 11, I think), but they are such a blessing to our church. The younger one is a never-ending burst of energy, always grinning about something. The older one is quiet and contemplative, but rarely without a smile, and always cuddling someone's baby.

We can't imagine life without them now! They are such a blessing to the entire parish.

So courage and best wishes to you! May this young girl be a blessing to you!

P.S. Would you mind if I added your family to my church's prayer list during the adoption process? (if you do mind, that's fine, I won't be offended! :) )

I don't know what route your family is taking to fly to China, but if you need a layover on the Pacific side of the U.S. we're here. And our house is yours.

Our hope is to stop off in California on the way out and visit Mrs. Van Vogt, who has been invited John for some time now. I don't know if this will work out or not. If it should be that we end up farther north, we'll definitely let you know!!!
