05:51 pm: Trees

I've discovered that I love trees. Isn't that weird? You think I would have noticed before this, but no. It took getting a digital camera for Christmas. Now all of a sudden, I am spending all this time taking pictures of trees. I could never have done this with film, too expensive...but with the digital camera? I've got room for almost 2000 pictures, and that's before I upload them!

If you want to see what I've been looking at, you can see some of my tree portraits here. They look really good on the full screen mode (Slideshow, up in the corner.)

Here's one of my favorite, taken this weekend at Gettysburg, PA.

It has that "ice crystals in the sky diffusing the sun" look that I like a lot.

I've never had a camera before where I could aim at the sun and still get a picture!

It's amazing what a good camera will do for your sight. :) I love trees myself, especially when they're outlined against the glowing twilight sky. You can see some of my pics at http://joitheartist.deviantart.com/gallery/

If I might ask...What camera did you get? :)

A Kodak Thingamajingy? Sorry, I'll have to go look at it. Since it was a gift, I didn't pay much attention to the specifics.

Boy! You have some really beautiful pictures of trees, clouds, sunset light, and water! Wow! I particularly liked one shot of a pine, I think, with the sunset light reflecting off it. Wow.

LOL, that's ok, I was just curious. :)

Thanks! I enjoy my camera, but boy is it nice to be able to take as many shots as you want...I generally delete 3 of every 4 shots I take, so I can leave just the lucky shots. :)

I enjoyed your tree gallery! I also found that the digital camera frees me to take lots and lots of nature pictures. I start clicking and just can't stop. Autumn is especially tempting with the marvelous colors. My younger daughter has been wont to complain that we take pictures of frogs, trees, and wildflowers when we are on vacation instead of pictures of each other. I don't see things getting better for her in the new digital world!

The infinite pictures part is really great. Especially when, as I explained below, your son decides to take 25 pictures of his foot.

I love trees! Let's pick a day in spring and take the boys on a tree walk.

That sounds great!

As the above commenter mentions, one is free with a digital camera to take as many pictures as one wishes. So, yesterday, I let the Cherubim use the camera as I was reading to the boys.

He took about two dozen pictures of his foot. I don't know if he did this on purpose, or just that he was laying on his back, so his foot made the picture. But he laughed and declared "Foot!" with me for every one.

It's interesting what they get up to, isn't it? Finding the fun in things is great.

Tomorrow, Ben has to do a how-to demonstration. He's making ranch dressing--from scratch. It's from that Honest Pretzels cookbook.

Have you ever been to Prince William Forest Park?

No! That sounds lovely! Let's do that. Maybe in March, if the weather warms up?

Want to pick a date?
Sunday afternoons are better options for me than Saturdays in March...

We can make it by 1:30 or 2 on Sunday. How about March 14th, assuming the weather is good when the time comes?

Did you mean 14th the Saturday or 15th the Sunday?

My 3yr old god-daughter LOVES cameras (I'm thinking of getting her one of those kids' cameras for her next birthday), and is always either posing for me to take a pic, or grabbing the camera and taking one herself. :)

The funny thing? She's actually got a good eye!! She posed her parents and herself for their Christmas photo, and it turned out great.

Despite the foot thing, the only nice picture I have of me from the last few years was taken by the Cherubim.

All my kids went through a photogenic phase, about two to four, and then an awkward phase, when, cute as they looked, they looked goofy in pictures. Weird. ;-)
