09:09 am: The Ups and Downs of The Magnificent Profession of Author

Prospero Regained has received some really nice reviews…and some really nice in person reactions from people eager to read it–including people who had been totally uninterested in the fact that I wrote books…until they started reading them.

But yesterday, I found out that Barnes & Nobles is not carrying it in their stores. They have it online and in the Nook, but not in hardback on the shelves…where people can see it.

This was a shame, as they had displayed the first two quite nicely.

If you have a local B&N, and you have a few minutes, you might call them and ask if they have it. You don’t have to order it or buy it…just give the impression people are looking for it. Don’t know if that will help but it surely could not hurt.  ;-)

Got it on the Nook already, but I'll be sure to do this. As the last really big chain, it's important to have a presence there.

Still doing Capclave in a few weekends?

Thanks!

I must say I was really delighted that they got it out right away on Nook.

Indeed, we will be at Capclave...though only for the first half of Saturday. Hope to see you!

According to Amazon.com, the dead-tree version is being prepared to be shipped with my other early autumn books.

...And they're off!

Email notice arrived only moments ago. I should gain Regained in a few days.

It's a good book. I will be reviewing it as soon as I re-read it.

Thank you so much! That actually brought teas to my eyes. I've noticed that you and I often are on opposite sides of various "how to write" issues. I just kind of assumed the book would not appeal to you.

Bless you and thanks!

I work for the book wholesaler that fills a large grocery chain (don't know if I can name names her so won't) and have begged our book buyer to put your second and third installments out (they had the first, that's how I found you) I will keep trying, people need to read good books these days!!!

I should add: Did they carry the paperback of the first one? If so, the paperback of the second one doesn't come out until next summer...you can always ask them again then. ;-)

That's disappointing. Since Waldenbook's closed last week, our city doesn't have a book store.

We had four Borders and three Waldenbooks in relatively reasonable driving distance. They are all gone. We do have two B&Ns left, and some used Swap-It style stores and one real used bookstore.

Hopefully, the vacuum left by Borders and Walden will be filled within the next few years by soemthing new and interesting. It would be horrible if malls just didn't have bookstores anymore! The bookstore was always my favorite part of going.
