07:51 am: Overheard At The Wright Household

After years of hints and wheedling, John is FINALLY reading the Harry Dresden books. Yesterday, Juss blurted out the dire cliffhanging ending of Book 11.  John objected.

Orville: “Don’t worry, Dad.  You’ll forget it.”

Dad: “I don’t forget anything except phone numbers and your names.”

Orville thinks about this carefully for a minute: “Just pretend it’s a name.”

That is very funny (as one who forgets names seconds after hearing them!)

Will John be commenting on the Dresden books? I absolutely LOVE that series, and I'd love to see his thoughts on it.

I'll mention the idea to him. I LOVE them, too.

I've loved Dresden since the first book. Our library was unfamiliar with Butcher, but a request remedied that, and now they purchase all his books. I didn't realize there were 11 already! I'm just grateful that Butcher is a prolific writer. He is one of the few contemporary fantasy writers who shows a respect toward faith in his stories, and I appreciate that greatly.

No, I did not. I've been online so sporatically that I'm missing a lot of my flist (It's almost to a "bankrupt my pants" level. (For an explanation of Bankrupt my pants: http://www.shermandorn.com/mt/archives/000923.html)

I'll go check it out.

Ouch

That would be worse than spoiling the end of #11, since well, the title is not kidding.

Yep! Juss heard Bill and I discussing it and asked questions. Apparently, he remembered well enough to tell John.

Poor John. This is the same guy who was getting his hair cut (and thus could not raise his hands to cover his ears) when MTV announced who killed Dumbledore.

I wondered! I couldn't think of what the cliffhanger was in 11! But what a cliffhanger, huh? I got my husband into Jim Butcher, too. He's just finishing Presumed Guilty, one of my favorites.

I don't know whether Orville's logic is more amusing, or the fact that Juss knows how book 11 ends. Either way, it' a riot.
