03:54 pm: Twenty for Prayer -- October 2007
Latest "Twenty for Prayer" -- any wishing to join in the prayer can follow the link.

Our subject for this month is: Peacemakers.

Recently, our church magazine had a wonderful article about a man from Rwanda who had been one of the soldiers during the ugly wars there who was involved in the murder of a woman’s husband. The war is over now, and this woman is actually employing this man. She valued a new harmonious peace more than revenge.

I mentioned this to another member of this group who has been to Africa, and he said that all over Africa, people…often the women…are asking to put the past behind them and move forward, to forgive those who fought on the opposite side in various conflicts rather than to condemn such people.

I found these stories so inspiring!  This month, let us pray for those who put arguments behind them and forgive. May God grant them the peace they seek!

Related Bible quotes:

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. (Matthew 5:22-34)

Genesis 32-33 – the story of Jacob being forgiven by Esau, the brother he betrayed.

Genesis 43-45 – the story of Joseph forgiving his brothers.

Speaking of prayer

(Link)
Would you add to your prayer list these two people:

Jerrod Shelton (a teenage boy and dearly beloved of a local woman, Amanda Witt, who write a blog I read regularly)

Judite Coutinho (my cousin)

Both have brain tumors. Both require extensive surgery. Both know and love Our Lord. I know they are safe in his care, but of His mercy, I hope He will let them stay with us a while longer.
