11:06 am: Will Glorify Wizard For Food
Yesterday, the mom of one of the Cherubim's classmates wrote me to ask about a present she was thinking of getting him. She thought she might give him something her son liked...but she knew we are religious and did not wish to offend us.

So, she kindly wrote and asked if it was okay to give my son a snap together wizard's castle. She wanted to check that I did not object to "glorifying" wizards.

I wrote back:
LOL  My husband and I are fantasy writers. We glorify wizards for a living.

It is unfortunate that some people interpret their religious beliefs in a way that looks less than favorably on fantasy fiction. And worse, lots of people assume that all people of strong faith must feel similarly.

I admire the way you and John manage to be a good counter-example to that.

I am reminded of a friend who, when working as a children's librarian, discovered that there were some Christan parents who did not want their children to read Narnia.

The very books that had led her to become such a devout Christian.

It saddens me that those people don't even read what they condemn.

Since you're probably not burning candles in front of it, invoking the spirit of Gandalf, or sacrificing Captain Crunch to it, I think you're cool.
