10:58 am: Interesting Morning
We has a lovely time at Balticon. The Launch went well. We saw many friends.

Today is the Cherubim's birthday, so I spent the morning so far doing a bit of shopping for cake and other foods he likes and running a treat by the school for him to share with his class. (It was a fun visit. It was the only time I've ever visited that he seemed to care I was there or not want me to go.)

I got home to find a Summons, a Warrent for Debt, on my door.

Blink, blink, blink

This was a big shock, because we're not behind on anything. Turns out, after I studied it more carefully, that it was not for us. It was for our neighbor. I felt bad bringing it over to them. But, as John and I well know, better to get a summons than to NOT get it and not show up at court.

The Cherubim seems happy with his loot so far. Hopefully, the bike we bought him will be ready before the day is out. (It's being adjusted and having training wheels added.)

I hope he has a wonderful birthday.
Good that the summons wasn't a problem for you though I'm sorry it was there at all. Notice how these things happen after shopping trips?

I was especially touched that Roland was more interested in my being at his class. Usually, he didn't play any attention to me. This time, he wanted me to stay a while.

Thank you. He had a nice birthday and is now the proud owner of a bike. (Actually, he's the proud owner of a very loud horn with a bike attached. Hopefully, he'll notice the bike part eventually, but mean while...honk, honk!)

Nice visit

Jagi, thank you for signing my copy of Prospero Lost and thank that Scourge of Evil, He of the Slouched Hat, for all his wise conversation and snappy banter.

I hope the Cherubim had a great birthday.

In kind, I spent today entertaining my two young cousins -- Gabriel, 5.88, and Aurora, 2.72 -- who fill the roles, in my extensive clan, of grand-nephew and grand-niece. Gabriel read several beginning books to me aloud; showed me how he could now ride a bike without training wheels; and trounced me in a couple of board games.

Aurora played dressed up with her Pretty Princess jewelry, then I accompanied them and their parents to dinner at Texas Roadhouse, which had **real, live** peanuts we could shuck at our table!

[Plus the cinnamon honey-butter for the dinner rolls is to die for.]

Sounds like a wonderful time! Pretty Princess is one of those things so cute that it would have to come into existance even if it had not been invented.

Mainly movies, as that's what he's really interested in. He like Mario and Mickey Mouse, so he got some of those. He also got a Mario Bros shirt and a yoshi.

Howard Tayler

I gather that BaltiCon is a rather huge regional con. Did you happen to meet Howard Tayler, of Schlock Mercenary fame?

Re: Howard Tayler

I did!

Because I'm on staff of the RAH Blood Drive Friday through Sunday, I almost never get to any of the panels in the last few years and by the time I've visited the Art Show on previous occasions, all that's left to view has been pegboards.

This year, I scuttled downstairs Saturday during donor sign-up to grab a bite and coffee from the Con Suite across from the Art Show where Tayler's merchadise table was located. I snagged the last copy of his Vol. 4 compendium after scrutinizing his work in the show and he "defaced" the copy for me.

Jagi and John were only able to attend the last two days of the convention, so their time was at a premium.

Because my cousin Chris could only attend the first two days, he missed the Wrights entirely.

However, I enjoyed their company.

Jagi, Howard was a fun person. I'm sorry your paths didn't intersect.

A lesson I learned from many Cons attended over the last 22 years is that one is going to fail to go to everything and to meet everyone. Like life, one should delight in the treats to which one is availed rather than despair over the opportunities that didn't materialize.

"Turns out, after I studied it more carefully, that it was not for us. It was for our neighbor."

Collectors do that on purpose, in an attempt to shame the debtor.
